Two distinct seasons characterise the climate of the Kafue National Park: the wet season extending from October to April and the dry season from April to September. Usually, July is the coldest month and October the hottest month.

Month

July (°C)

October (°C)
Mean maximum temperature 22-28 31-35
Mean minimum temperature 5-7 15-18

The mean annual rainfall is in the range of 600 mm in the south to 1200 mm in the north.

During the wet season, many of the roads in the Kafue National Park become inaccessible. Consequently, many lodges are closed. Accordingly, the dry season from April to October is the best time to visit. At the beginning of the dry season, just after the rains, the park is beautiful in all its lushness. Wildlife, however, can be challenging to spot in the dense vegetation. Later in the season, the bush is less dense, which improves visibility, and the game is concentrated around the watercourses.
