  Tarmac to Livingstone:

Soon, the Kafue National Park will be easy accessible from Livingstone, the tourism capital of Zambia.

The World Bank and the Norwegian Agency for International Development (NORAD) have pledged to develop the Kafue National Park, with the bank earmarking 3 million US Dollars for the development of road infrastructure in the park.

A major portion will be used to tarmac the road from Livingstone through Itezhi-Tezhi to the Lusaka-Mongu Road.

Despite being the oldest park in Zambia, the Kafue National Park remains underdeveloped compared to other parks such as South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi. Perhaps, the mere size of the park, being the largest in Zambia, has been a hindrance in itself, as development efforts have been short-term, small-scale and far between. This, however, is changing rapidly.

Today, the Kafue National Park is benefiting from the international support of the World Bank, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and the Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA). Nationally, the donor programmes are being implemented by Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA), with the assistance of local communities through Community-Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM) projects.
